This is a time of great
physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes, especially if it is
your first baby. Mindfulness as taught in the MBI programme which
closely follows the MBSR programme allows couples or individuals
to develop the practice to suit their needs at this special time.
There are challenges that will be faced and the often unknown experiences
of childbirth and parenthood. The skills and approaches of this
programme however do not stop at just helping you through the childbirth
and first few months. They form the basis of a life approach which
will improve the quality of the whole parenting experience, helping
you to learn how to adapt to changing demands through out your child's
lifetime. However it is not prescriptive in 'how to do it'. Rather
it is an approach that allows you to become more responsive to your
self and to your child, enhancing life experiences and increasing
the harmony in family relationships, based on emotional flexibility
and self awareness. t is up to you how much you take from the course
and how much you continue to use as part of your daily life.
A recent letter of thanks from a client sums it up beautifully.
Dear Sylvia,
WE just wanted to thank you for everything and making the MBSR course
so amazing.
. needed to learn to relax more and I just wanted
a bit of help in anticipation of labour - but we both got so much
more out of it and it is no exaggeration to say it opened up a different
way of living to us.......
